Just sayin'...

Well actually, Mother Teresa said it. But I agree.

Happy Friday

A lovely day

Music has always been a a massive part of my life. Something that started with Bananarama and Kylie Minogue that led me to be heavily involved in amateur musical theatre and to be a singer from the ages of 16 to 21; firstly as part of a girl group (I just wanted to be a Spice Girl really) who supported Atomic Kitten and worked with 70's hero and legend Leo Sayer to being a solo artist writing and co producing my own music.

Music is still a huge part of my life today, and although I have left the singing behind my world would be a very empty one without melodies and dirty bass beats filling my ears at any given moment. Luckily for me, I married a man equally as much into music as me. For me, it's as much about the lyrics as it is the beats - for the boy, it's all about the bass line. People use songs to express how they feel when they can't quite find the words themselves, whether that's to say good bye to someone at a funeral or to say hello to a girl they have a crush on. This is why, for some, music is such an important part of their wedding day.

Our wedding play list was immense and it was a very very long list compiled by both Me, Anthony and our gusts. Our RSVP cards contained a section where guests could write down their favourite songs for us to play. Needless to say we ended up with a completely mixed bag but it was the  perfect play list.

It was a difficult task to pick the most 'important ' songs of the day. You know, walking down the aisle, first dance etc. We hand picked every single song and for a reason, but the ones that had the most prominence were ones that a, we adored for the melody and b, had a lyrical loveliness that we could relate to. So, here were our choices, and I'd love o hear about yours...

Walking down the aisle:
Bill withers, Lovely Day

Signing the register
MGMT, Electric Feel
Robyn Thicke, Magic
Zero 7, Destiny
Aaliyah, On in a million

Leaving the ceremony
Labrinth, Let the Sunshine

First Dance
The Elgins, Heaven must've sent you

So, how important is music to you? Are you having a band or blasting out an iPod all night long? I'd love to know.

Give those kisses the attention they deserve

Kissing whilst driving is probably dangerous but if you're going to do it, do it right.

Happy Friday

Did someone say cake?

Apologies in advance, but this is about to make you pretty hungry!

I didn't have a wedding cake. I opted for scrummy totally gorgeous delicious need to eat 15 of them in one go cupcakes, that we served with coffee after we had gorged on delicious West Indian food (and steak!)

My cupcakes were made by the very talented Buttons Bakery. Look at the pretty...

They also had alcohol in them! Yes thats right...cocktail cupcakes. Including strawberry daiquri and pina colada.

However, if I had of had a cake...any one of these amazingly yummy looking ones would have done the trick! In fact, the first unbelievable cake from Choccywoccydoodah would've matched my theme down to a 'tea' (couldn't help myself!) Also, check out the raspberries on the last cake. Yum to the max!

Are you having a cake on your day?

Enjoy cake lovers.

Shorty swing my way...

STOP right now! Why are you growing your hair for your wedding??? I don't really get it. The idea (in my head) is to still be you on your wedding day, not someone you're uncomfortable with because you have frustrating hair.

Don't get me wrong, long hair definitely has its advantages...limitless updo's and gorgeous bohemian waves to name a couple...but if that's not really you on a day to day 'vibe' why make it you for one day?

I actually cut my hair for my wedding - admittedly I ended up wearing it up in the end so the length had no real impact anyway but I went from bust length hair to chin length - I like to think I'm rebellious like that!

I have been a bridesmaid on numerous occasions (thankfully the rhyme didn't stick to me and I got to be a bride too) and it has always involved the bride stressing over her hair and what to do with it and after they've curled it to death, because obviously you have to have curly hair on your wedding day when really your hair is poker straight, the wind blew once during the photos and all the curls disappeared so there I've been in my bridesmaids dress re curling the brides hair...again for it to fall out in a matter hours. Also I know many a bride who grew her barnet for the big day to swiftly chop it all off even before honeymoon!

So I guess my point is this...be yourself, rock your hair how you always rock it, be comfortable and don't feel this unnecessary pressure to have long flowing locks on your big day. There is some inspiration below to show you how gorgeous a short haired bride can be. (I may have overdone it with the photos but there are some seriously gorgeous short hair brides that it was very difficult to pick my favourites! Keep scrolling...trust me the last photos are worth it!)

Where your pixie with pride ladies!

Are you feeling a pressure to grow your hair or are you going for 'you' on your big day?

Inspiration is everywhere

I don't normally do a Monday post, but last week I was so inspired and so I thought to hell with it, I can't wait until Tuesday to post this! I'm going to do it today.

As a Fabric Florist, Graphic Designer and general creator of things, I often get asked "who do you look to for inspiration?"

I always find it a difficult question to answer.

I don't think it's always a case of who. I believe inspiration is all around us - from a dusty road sign to a print in a glossy magazine.

I talk about inspiration because last week was one FULL of inspiration - I was literally bowled over with the amount of inspiring things I saw on the internet (let's not even talk about the Olympics, I'll just cry - mortified that it's over!). So I thought I'd share of few things that got me inspired - hopefully they might inspire you too :)

LoveLuxe Launch

If you didn't see this last week, where were you?! Literally. It was everywhere and for good reason. Pocketful of Dreams had a table at the launch and boy o boy o boy was it fabulous. Such amazing colours and imagination.

See POD's table here

They weren't the only people taking part in the launch - you can see even more inspiration over on the LoveLuxeBlog here

So Pretty Was She

If you haven't come across Ren's wonderful blog, So Pretty Was She, yet then you are missing out. Its only a few weeks to go until her big day and last week she shared a sneak with us of her table flowers. Gorgeous hues of yellow which brightened up my week :)

Dazed and Confused

I have been a lover of this magazine for years and they post some really good content on their facebook page. Including this Marvel comic-inspired A/W12 collection by Romance was Born. VERY cool. and I'm VERY tempted to do a comic-inspired bouquet! How awesome would that be!

Wonderland by Kirsty Mitchell

This literally leaves me breathless. And it is just one of many shots from a 3 year project. Kirsty teamed up with Elbie Van Eeden (who will also be exhibiting at EWE in November) to create this phenomenal work. You can read about the inspiring story behind "wonderland' here.

So how's about that for just a snippet of things that inspired me last week!

Anything you want to share with me to add to my ever growing list of places to look for inspiration?

And we're live...

Putting a website together is a tricky bit of work but as my little business is slowly growing (and I now have a wedding in France that I am creating a ceiling feature for! International baby!) I thought I best have a functional place for people to visit and contact me from.

So...here she is!

www.beautifulbirdcreations.com

I have changed my mind countless times over the past for months about how the site should look but now I'm really happy that it is on brand and says what I do in a simple and concise way.

No doubt there will be changes to come in the future. But for now, I'm very happy to introduce my site to you :)

Enjoy.

I believe in kissing...

I believe in kissing...so does Audrey Hepburn.

She believes in lots of the same things as me, or perhaps I believe in the same things as her.  This quote from the gorgeous lady herself just makes me smile.

What do you believe in?

Happy believing in things Friday to you all
